Grand Canyon Day Trip

From the City of Las Vegas, we decided to have a day trip to Grand Canyon. Not really wanting to be bothered by the driving (but in the future we will do road trips!), we booked our tours from http://www.grand-adventures.com.  I recommend it to anyone planning to go see the Grand Canyon. Our first stop (after breakfast at McDonalds) is close to the border of Nevada and Arizona, which is about an hour away from Las Vegas. You guessed it! We went to see the famous Hoover dam.

After parking, we hiked a little (very effortless) and walked over the bridge, to see the Hoover Dam, which is found in the colorado river. Notable films filmed in Hoover Dam is the Transformers (as a secret base of Sector 7) and Superman. We had many questions about how its engineering and mechanics. If you are into that kind of thing, they have a visitors centre where you can tour the power plant, see the generators, for an entrance fee.  We had a very short visit, we maybe around 30-40 minutes. We just went to see the dam and took pictures. All of the time, I wondered what is so great about a dam.

Another exciting thing to experience at the Nevada and Arizona border is time traveling (No kidding)  You see, Arizona is 1 hour ahead of Nevada. When you cross the border, you lose 1 hour of time!!! Here are the local clocks (found at the border) to prove it:

Yee. We time traveled! Then we went to Seligman, Arizona and stopped at the Historic Route 66. Route 66 is one of the original highways in the United States of America, running from Chicago to Santa Monica but was later abandoned due to the  birth of the Interstate. If you watched the movie Cars, which was set in the fictional town of radiator springs along Route 66, you’d be amazed at the sight of the “cars”

After arriving in Route 66, we bought a few souvenirs. Then we arrived at the Grand Canyon visitors centre. We had our packed lunch there. Sincewe visited Grand Canyon in February, and snow was just melting. 🙂

The Grand Canyon is a sight to behold! None of my shots can do it justice!! Layers of colors, made by time. It spans as far as my eyes can see. Cool.

There are many areas to drive around the Grand Canyon. We even saw an elk. First time in my life to encounter an Elk. We watched them cross the street infront us.

Then going home (back to las vegas), we enjoyed this sunset:
